Lano:

Welcome back to Drifting on Arroyo.

Rick:

This is Lano, RK67 and no Mig, me he's working working there.

Lano:

I don't know. I think it's one of the, what they call it, the big, the, the big quiet, quit, quit or whatever the recession Because we're having that. We're having a marathon episode, yeah, and he's kind of protesting it, talking about the marriage. Ricky's ready his marathon in three days, four days.

Rick:

Three days Friday, saturday, sunday. He had three days same paddies day.

Speaker 3:

That's gonna be pretty cool.

Rick:

You know what I want to do. I'll tell you, vanessa, it's at the same paddies day. I want to run it and then I want to go to the bar that we go to, liam's. Well, is that by your house over there in Colton, by her house? What's a brewery? Oh no, it's a bar. I'm like that karaoke bar we go to uh-huh.

Lano:

Oh karaoke.

Rick:

We finally went the other, like a couple weeks ago. It was, um, we finally went back because we hadn't been there since damn last year. I think I Become, I become a pretty good damn singer dude, believe it or not. And so it's a. Hey, my goal to is like red hot chili peppers, and you know the trick is mm-hmm to karaoke. This is the trick. What is it? Of course, you pick a song that you like, right, that you're really into. But if you really know a song and you know, you know the, what do they call it like?

Rick:

the rhythm or the temple the rhythm, the temple, the the, the cadence, yes, the cadence, uh-huh, the cadence of the song.

Rick:

Uh-huh you can get away with. We're singing a song and you sound good. Because when you, when you go out there and a person doesn't know Like the song, they're trying to figure it out. Or you're like it's a song that you know, but you're kind of like shy, but like if you, if it's a song that you've always sang and you know the all the little parts, the canines and all that stuff, you can get away with it.

Lano:

So you're, you're singing it. You're not trying to mimic the original. Well, yeah, doing your own.

Rick:

No, yeah, yeah you mimic that, you try mimic the, the voice inflections and all that, the stretch it is.

Lano:

Yeah.

Rick:

Now. But you, you, you have to stay in your range. Well, yeah, don't try to just do.

Lano:

I save.

Rick:

It's like a high, you know no take it to the limit. Yeah just yeah, just you just stay, stay in that pocket when you're just well, you know, take it to the limit.

Lano:

ever since, like I left the ego, I don't remember his name, the original singer, oh, oh yeah. And then the new guys come in, and then I think now they even have another like a solo artist, who joined the band to sing his parts. When I saw him at the concert, I Remember when he came out it was the bass player, but he sings highs too.

Rick:

Well, there's no, there's another guy.

Lano:

But there's another guy who joined them, who joins them on stage? Hmm, well, ever since the, the second lead passed away, there's another guy doesn't in. He, oh, I haven't seen. He took it over and no, he just sings in his range. He doesn't try to stretch the high. Yeah, he does, he does, does it? Yeah, it's not Timmy Grots, but it's like a country singer.

Rick:

But I'm telling you, like Chili pepper songs, like I sang them so much under the bridge, like my favorite chili pepper song is sold to squeeze. Right, yeah, so to squeeze.

Lano:

But I've never like, I've never like remembered lyrics like I don't know, like you tell me no, like a whole song. I've never.

Rick:

I don't know a whole song, any, any song. Well, that's what house like when you're seeing it, but you really want to like hear the song and then that way you remember the pockets now, this is at the bar, so you don't have no, it's not like that your house.

Lano:

You don't have no control of how loud your voice is or how loud the music is and it's all good.

Rick:

The system there's good, like the, the speakers, the, the mics and everything. Everything sounds good. Mm-hmm, there's some people that are there when they sing they gotta like and and they know how to sing like they. They're right like a pro They'll, you'll see them. They're not right on the mic, like when they bust out with their note. They gotta like pull the mic away, like they know yeah, where it's that, carry it.

Lano:

No, it's this, this.

Rick:

There's this one dude, or Ryan, this dude. He's one of the the screamer Singers there. Like a song that, like a rock song that just has screaming in it right nails it man. He's like he's. He's gotta be my part of my favorite. He's just a little bit there, yeah one of the locals, you know what, and it's something about that spot to Liam's, it's so comfortable. Like you, you get there.

Lano:

It's right here on screen. Is I have the right place? Yeah, yeah that's it.

Rick:

That's it in Colton. Yeah, it's something about that spot where you just feel comfortable to go up there, people cuz you're up there, and then some people are like they're into the song because they're kind of like singing along with you. If they know it, some people are just having their own conversations. They're not even looking at us.

Lano:

I'll say are you like closing your eyes, like just singing, or Giving eye contact to your girl, you know what?

Rick:

or me, oh yeah, a lot of times I'm like looking at Vanessa because it'll be like I try to do, like, like Fun songs you have to do like three songs in a row, or no you while you put your name on the list. Oh and then when they call you, maybe, if you're lucky, you'll get three songs.

Lano:

There's the pool table. I'm trying to see like what the stage looks like.

Rick:

No, you're right there in front of the like how big is it? That's, that's the. That's a little separate room on the side, all right, oh, they have. You know it's good there, so you're, you're for all the right here.

Lano:

So you're friend and center, like this guy right here.

Rick:

You walk in the way it is, okay, the way it is. You walk in right, the bars to your right, but it's really small. It's really small. The bars to your right, and then there's tables. There's tables and chairs and then you go through a little like doorway and then that's the other side of that room. Where do you see the pool tables?

Lano:

Oh.

Rick:

But it's really small, like they could have. There's a. There's like a. So you walk in bars to the right tables to the left and then it's a DJ set up there. But they have like kind of like a counter there, kind of like where they used to serve food over right, because the kitchen's behind there, oh and that, that one space where the counter is like where they used to like, I guess, past food. If it was a restaurant before, maybe back in the day they could demo all that area and do a nice, just a nice little stage man.

Lano:

They got like they got the room.

Rick:

Yeah, they got the room there to make a cool little little stage up there, you know so is it only certain days like karaoke or every night, every night, every night, every night. So, um, I Think Monday is a regular night, tuesdays come a cozy night. So, whatever is it, you can you can pick a song, or you just pick a song from my head.

Rick:

And then, whatever it is, you sing it. I Did that the first. The first time I did that, I think I got like a Marvin Gaye song. I was like, oh shit, how am I gonna? Do this, reading it, you know the song, but Marvin Gaye got it.

Rick:

Like you're not trying, to yeah and then, like Wednesday night is Game night, so you people bring games or whatever you're playing until you you go up there to go see your song. Oh, and then Thursdays and Fridays, that okay. So it's cool, is that when we go, this guy buddy we I mean he's, the vibe is just awesome there, man, mm-hmm. So when buddies there, locals come, the locals come and it's a certain type of locals, that's just a awesome vibe, right, mm-hmm, buddies there, and he does it. But now I guess he was doing it every night, so I guess he needed a break. So this other chick goes on Thursdays and Fridays now and we always, we always go on Friday.

Rick:

Well but this chick does it on Thursdays and Fridays and this chick can sing. She has the karaoke set up and everything too, so it's a different type of crowd that goes when she's there, so they go to see her.

Lano:

Yeah, and she's just screwing around just to get people going like but she could sing, yeah, she's a mean singer.

Rick:

Yeah, she's a hallowed singer, but, like when Buddy's there, the locals that go there I don't know if the other locals go when the other chicks are, but I know the locals that would come. It's just, it's just cool, man, the vibe you feel, just feel comfortable. So what?

Lano:

time? What time is it when you go?

Rick:

We usually get there, I think they start around eight, eight, 30 when he starts setting up. So we've got in there, like like a couple of weeks ago we got there eight, eight o'clock and Buddy didn't show up to set up till like eight, 30. So the like so as soon as he's setting up, you go up there and you start putting your name on the list, and then boom.

Lano:

Like if Law Computer or Paper List or what.

Rick:

Yeah, well, he puts your name on the laptop because he has everything all set up and then you go in and then you will just wait for your turn and then, like you get three night, three songs probably in the night, because I, when the last time we were there, I would have had a third song in and that was already, like, I think, one 10, one, 15 in the morning.

Rick:

They were already last call was already done and they're already closing up, so they're doing their last few and I was like one of the last people that I was able to do a song and I, just, I, just I did two songs. I just passed it. I go because cause there's a bunch of people we what's cool is the list is there. So the first people that are there they'll do their songs, but then if new people come just to so that way they can get their song in, they'll do like the people earlier and then they'll go pick one person, maybe a couple of people that were brand new to the list, and then they'll go back to the list just to get variety and instead of it's not like all.

Lano:

People tying up the list. They want to do their singing and all that stuff. So are you like one drink in, two drinks in, or you're saving just for the person?

Rick:

You know what? I've never been. I've never been like drunk or I've been. I don't even think I've even been buzzed. I've been good. It's like they have a beer there, a red ale, that I really like. I'll probably take down like three of those there. And that's already like we'll pre-game even before going in. We'll pre-game in the parking lot or have Vanessa's, and then you know.

Lano:

Is it just you, vanessa, singing too?

Rick:

Nah Vanessa watches. She's never seen her, she's singing at your house, but not in public. At Mark's house or her house, Like cause we even set up. She has like one of those little mics that have a speaker, Bluetooth speaker on when. So she'll sing there. She'll sing at the house, Cause I even have all the carry. I have bought a whole carry a new set up.

Speaker 3:

You bought some stuff.

Rick:

So we've had it at Mark's house, couple parties and sang there, you know, and but it's usually me. Is it like a big or like?

Lano:

a like a big speaker. I have the speaker from Costco.

Rick:

But then I have my little mixer. It's a little like digital converter box and all the cables. And then the mixer comes with two mics where you can adjust the music and the volume.

Lano:

Are they regular XLR mics or like USB or what?

Rick:

What do you mean?

Lano:

USB, like the Bluetooth the connections, the connections like like is it like a big Bluetooth? Yeah, Bluetooth or XO.

Rick:

Yeah, they're Bluetooth. Oh, okay, bluetooth, and you just put them on the deck to charge.

Lano:

Oh, oh looks all handheld no.

Rick:

I'm sorry, they're batteries. They're batteries. Yeah, they're batteries.

Lano:

Oh yeah, but batteries, but they connect, yeah.

Rick:

But Bluetooth they're wireless? Yeah, they're wireless. So it's usually Shane Shelby and then me. So how's like Shane loves it, man, Shane.

Lano:

Is it like a teleprompter or it's a little screen Like, so you read it. It's really big.

Rick:

You're looking behind you, so he sits in the corner, he sits the mic stand right there and you're in front of that kitchen bar stand that I'm telling you, and then, on the wall where you're facing it, the TV screens up on the wall opposite of the bar. So it's on the wall and then you're reading the lyrics.

Lano:

I'm gonna test you because you can do karaoke on the right here on the Apple TV, yeah, I mean like all the songs that they start playing, like the lyrics, and then you can adjust the volume and stuff. Yeah, so Give me a grade Like a savvy thing.

Rick:

Yeah, I mean.

Lano:

Oh, I mean there's songs that I've done. I'd probably be able to record it too. I mean we could play it after the show.

Rick:

Give a little clip of it A little clip or Dude. I feel like I can hit those Red Hot Chili Pepper songs. You know the first song I ever did there Karaoke and the reason we went was Shane and Shelby. They would went right. It was before we started hanging out with them and I was barely with Vanessa.

Lano:

But they're Vanessa's friends, right? Yeah?

Rick:

Vanessa and Shelby worked together. That's how we all came. And then Vanessa said, oh, let's go to this bar up here because her friend Shelby and her husband go sing karaoke and no one's ever filmed them. They do like a duet song and no one's ever filmed them. And I'm like, yeah, I'm down and we went?

Lano:

Oh, because there's a chance people will film you or record you, one or no, I mean just, I mean your friends Like. Just your phone.

Rick:

So she was going, she wanted to film them. She wanted to film them, that way she can give them the video, because no one's ever gone with them you know yeah. We were like fresh, just barely meeting them and hanging out with them, right.

Lano:

Oh, so she really didn't hang out outside of work with her.

Rick:

No, so, and then I guess they were talking one day and then you know shot, and then that shot that they would go to that Liam's, which is really close to Vanessa's house, and they used to live like in Beaumont man. It's a drive from Beaumont all the way to them. Liam's right there in Colton just to do karaoke. It's because that bar, that bar is damn.

Lano:

The vibe is awesome. The Sound City.

Rick:

You know what I mean.

Lano:

Like the tones of the sound.

Rick:

Everything's just right there, man. That's why I was able to go up there. And then that's when I was birthday, like dating, no, we were already together, me and Vanessa. And then she's like, are you gonna do a song? I'm like, oh shit, like what the hell am I gonna do? I try to pick like a safe song. And then it was Sex Candy from Marcy's Playground.

Lano:

Where it's real easy.

Speaker 3:

It's real.

Rick:

I mean just nothing crazy, just steady tone throughout, and I was able to do that. And then I just would always pick songs that I was trying to stay in my pocket.

Speaker 3:

I mean, I've never been a singer like singing in the shower.

Lano:

You like you sing or you're in the car you're just ball chain out.

Speaker 3:

I've never been like that person, Like you're singing all out no not belching out, but just, I guess a little bit Like your songs that you come on.

Rick:

You just like it, you know. But like then you feel like you're right on point, because you're singing along with the song Right, right, but then once they take away those lyrics. You put it lower. Then you try there like oh shit, I sound crap, I sound like shit.

Lano:

Well, I think we could do a test, because, but I think it's the practice of it.

Rick:

Have you been recorded on your system?

Lano:

You can record yourself, you know.

Rick:

Vanessa has recorded me Like on her phone. Yeah, on her phone, but I don't think it was like it's nothing too crazy, it's been just regular songs, it was fun man, because especially when we do it like at Mark's, like dude, like it's, like we just try to pick like off-ball songs, like rap songs Now, when you do it at Mark's or the part, like if I'm there, you guys gonna be like dragging me on stage or you just like. Yeah, you gotta do it oh man. Now you can Well, okay.

Speaker 3:

If I go to Liam, I'm gonna be like you guys had left already huh.

Rick:

When we did it at my house after that, that white elephant, the first white elephant- yeah, well, we leave early, none come through.

Lano:

Yeah, you left already. You left the kids and Laurie Spright.

Rick:

No, at the time, Laurie Spright, but that one was tough because we didn't really have the right setup.

Lano:

I think you said you set up later.

Rick:

Yeah, but like even when Vanessa I never once a sing over there, like she'll get up there, and then you know it's just fun, man, you do a rap. You could do it like a damn 2Pac song, but I'm not a rapper. I don't know, I mean, why you do it the first time and then you're just like oh man, it's more fun than anything, I know.

Lano:

I know it's more just like. You gotta like stage right, you just gotta do it, you just gotta stay up, whatever.

Rick:

Yeah, everyone's there just to have fun Like no one's gonna like, oh you suck, or whatever, just like, yeah, I've done like songs where you know it's a certain way, and then I just try to like make fun of it, like do it a different tone that way.

Lano:

Do you ever like, try to do it like, let's say, some the song has like a unique voice. You try to do an impression, like or like you know one time that I did.

Rick:

I did a Tom Waits song, oh uh-huh.

Lano:

So, like the corral, that has a different yeah, yeah.

Rick:

So I try to do it like that right, and it was Make it Rain.

Lano:

Yeah, Make it Rain.

Rick:

And he has like that growl, like how does it go? It starts off. She took all my money, my best friend. I like that growl, you try to do it like a little bit, just to joke around with it. But yeah, I mean I've done that. There's one that I want to try with the screaming, because I think I see these guys screaming, like when Shane does his screams like Shane. Well, he could get into it like and do it like that.

Lano:

Oh, shane doesn't care, he's up there Like the hoover or whatever.

Rick:

He loves that, like he screams, he does, he hits like notes. Like a lot of them like his voice will crack. But oh man, that's his thing, man, karaoke, like he loves it. He loves that man. He's like that's his place there, like when he's singing this song Like you're singing like. And you know what I think with Shane when people trip out, when he sings songs, he'll sing like Spanish songs. He'll sing rock in his Spanish. Yeah, and he knows these songs.

Lano:

But he's not Spanish or he doesn't know Spanish. No, he knows.

Rick:

Yeah, he talks. He's like he's been learning Spanish for the longest and dude, he's singing these songs. He's not even looking at the lyrics. He knows the damn song. He's like oh, he's there, he's closing his eyes and yeah, he's. People trip out, especially when he does like my nassongs or or them.

Lano:

Never like wanga.

Rick:

No.

Lano:

I've been showing Ali a lot of wanga and she's been like Give in to it.

Rick:

Lord, lord hates it, but she doesn't just gotta appreciate it. She doesn't like wanga.

Lano:

Well, she doesn't understand it or or whatever. Like a lot of the older stuff she doesn't understand, but just appreciate the sound, the music, yeah, like I mean, that's the way Ali, I appreciate it the mariachi right, the mariachi part of it but did you ever play that song for it?

Rick:

Yeah, yeah, so we played it. We played it, but those are the ones.

Lano:

I forgot about it. That look like lullaby she like it. Yeah, oh yeah, you did so you didn't say right, yeah, you did play the lollipop lullaby. Now are you just there with your hands in your pocket, or you're like no, you know what I'm walking around, or?

Rick:

no, I'm standing there with a mic and at times I'm just like holding the mic. I'm not holding the mic freehand, the mic's on the hands, but I put my hands like around the mic and I'm just singing it like that.

Lano:

Oh Like really look close.

Rick:

Yeah. Yeah, I'm just holding it real close, like with my hands, kind of covering it like that and they're just like some songs that I really like. Know I can mess around, I look around, I look at Vanessa and you have a New respect for our New York friend.

Lano:

Remember the space oddities and he did at the bowling alley. Yeah, that's a performer right there, that was a performance.

Rick:

That was a performance.

Lano:

Maybe we should put that on the Instagram.

Rick:

Yeah, that's what.

Lano:

I make them a lot. Slack it on the Instagram, no post or anything.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, there's wag where, but but that?

Rick:

was a great performance there because Even that, when he took off his shirt, he he laid down on the floor and some dude, some dude came up to him and like pinched his nipples? I don't remember yeah at the Iraq bowling alley. At the Iraq bowling alley.

Lano:

No.

Rick:

Yeah, because he used to have karaoke there. No, yeah, it wasn't anywhere else.

Lano:

You rock bowling alley.

Rick:

Yeah, and I little bar sidebar oh.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah where the other restaurant the thing.

Lano:

So that's not around the world, or it looks all like a boarded up the I don't know, haven't been through there. What was it called?

Rick:

It's it, the eagle something.

Lano:

Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. No, I remember, it's not how we think they would still be there.

Rick:

Well, yeah, I would have thought that it would been all hipstered out.

Lano:

Yeah, I don't know. I was thinking of the, the pool place when we should play pool. Oh, that was 50s 50s.

Rick:

Yeah, I was a Glenn. Oh yeah, that's window.

Lano:

Yeah, that's window, but he did a performance where, like you know, he got on his back and sang space. I yeah, you ever do every David Bowie.

Rick:

No, nah, I've always done chili peppers. I've done, I've done a lot of like I've done Tom Petty, like classic rock stuff.

Lano:

I know they did a Super Bowl like they're like guest performing on a Super Bowl, because we went down the Super Bowl half-time rabbit hole.

Rick:

Oh but, Laura will honestly what are their acts.

Lano:

They did, and then they did one with I think they actually came out with Bruno Mars. Bruno Mars was good, bruno Mars, and they can't, I think Bruno Mars done, done it more than once.

Speaker 3:

Oh one of them.

Lano:

Then the chili peppers came out, like as a side, like guess. But I mean, when the chili peppers came out, like so I Thought I mean it was a good band, but like now they're like legendary, like they're still around, still Crankin out like the the hit still yeah, like I'm surprised how long like they they've lasted.

Rick:

It was. It was a band that people can still Hit. That were the bridge that, when David supposedly was a video 90 90s early on Broadway.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, early 90s early 90s we're.

Lano:

We're in high school because we're like you know, yeah, mid 90s we graduated, we're 90s.

Rick:

It's pretty crazy, because I mean what bands are still together doing it?

Lano:

Because that's I mean 90s. You're talking now, 35 years ago. Yeah oh, a long time.

Rick:

Metallica still at it still.

Lano:

I Mean the Eagles, I mean that's before, I mean before, as we listen to him. But now you got members like passing away and stuff. Yeah, like Metallica still Still around. It's weird cuz. Like you know, you watch sports now and you see rookies and now they're like retiring, like full. And it's like man, that guy, just I remember him like yeah you're seeing, I'm like downhill.

Lano:

Like I mean Russell Wilson I hope the raiders don't get him. Oh, he's already deteriorating, but like you remember him when he was like a rookie. Like you know, you see careers come and go all of a sudden and you remember when there are kids it's a trip to fly like clean, crucial.

Rick:

Yeah, like that dude's barely Hanging on hanging in there and I remember. I remember when we used to watch the Dodgers on Saturday. Like they'll be an afternoon game on Saturday. We're watching and we make, and I remember that first name Clayton, crucial, it's all the cranch are whatever like Clayton yeah that first game that he came and we're like, oh man, they go, this dude's badass like there's one of those first games as I do this. Dude's gonna be like Like Colfax man.

Lano:

Yeah yeah that left his Looking, and now to see him like, like looking old and feeling old but like Age wise is not really like. Like he's in his 30s right, Like you know, like that's still like young, like you know, Like they're saying

Rick:

the sports man.

Lano:

Travis Kelsey, like he's a year he's gonna retire I mean his brother retired, but he's like Getting ready to retire maybe next year or this year and like he's 30s. Like mid 32. I mean, I don't know how old he is, but he's young. I mean he's dating that singer.

Rick:

I think I think with Today's football and the way it's set up like like six years and they're done like these players are giving these players like Two, three good years and that's it. You know they're ready to ship them off. Yeah, and that's bullshit. Yeah, because the way game set up now they should be able to play more. Yeah, it's more safer.

Lano:

It's more like you know they're more protected. It's more or less Not like Kevin Green and those guys.

Rick:

I don't even try to figure out the whole. I guess politics of damn football and yeah, the. Eagles. Are these coaches and? Throwing mostly you want to the way they have to do it, a certain way, you know, which would drive me. Nuts is like instead of now.

Lano:

Well, now these rules. Was it a football motion like like they're going out of bounds was?

Rick:

was he making a football motion like no, I mean you see the year in your out like whatever, like they make it like two hands, two feet down. Catch, that's it. Yeah, now you got to add all did he fucking make us to a step, didn't make a move is like no man.

Lano:

Did he have control just?

Rick:

caught two feet down there. That's it. Yeah, the thing he gets it knocked out.

Lano:

It's a fumble and and then I'm going with that. Now we're at the age where, like you watch TV and Well, sports too, but everybody's like younger than you, like you know, everybody's like you're the old, like you're not part of, like before, like all these people are older than you, they're old and then you're like all this is our age or whatever, like yeah now. Now you're older than them, like, like, I don't know, we're not seniors, but we're up there like Simon man.

Rick:

Well, how do you feel right now, your age? How do you feel? Body wise, mentally wise? Well now, instead of like the whole cliche of like oh man, I feel like the women make everything like oh yeah, body parts, so they heard, and no right, physically right now like I Got some, some tools that are like rejuvenating me right now.

Lano:

They were rejuvenating your body, my rejuvenating body, like I got this my body all over your body like this hip hook, the next karaoke song. People like this, this hip hook, like that I've been using like I feel like I could run the marathon.

Rick:

I don't trust that hip hook thing that looks you, that looks like it'll hurt digging into your hair.

Lano:

It hurts, but like after you feel like you feel, like sometimes I dread like I don't want to get on it Because like it's painful.

Lano:

Yeah but then the after I get through it the next day, like I'm sure it's like a nice bath after you're feeling good, you're feeling loose, like like I feel like I just got loose some weight, like don't give me down to my weight, I'll lose some weight, and then like I could probably run the marathon next year. Are you gonna run the marathon? Cuz Laura wants Laura on something to run it with her, so she's gonna change for 2025?

Rick:

Well, maybe yeah, maybe next because she got left out.

Lano:

The last time, when we all did it, she got left out. She got you. Gotta do you if you know you are on board.

Rick:

If both of you are on board, you guys should be able to Help each other out the dieting part. You guys both be on on the same page with what you guys eat right, and you guys can, can really put up a good, a good time.

Lano:

Well, now I'm into, like I mean before, I like when I'll train. I'm like training with pre workouts and all this other stuff and Nutrition time, I mean, hopefully next year I train for these damn thing.

Rick:

Right, I Want to. I want to. After this marathon, I want to keep running all year long because I Need to break that damn four hours.

Lano:

I'm not breaking it this year. Why that's three hours? Let's give it a few weeks. That video guy breaking three hours.

Rick:

All I want is just under four hours man.

Lano:

I mean I've done it once, so now I know I could do it again. But now it's just like I mean before is this like a challenge, can you do it there, my baby sister? A lot challenge because, like October, like can you do it? I'm like, all right, I wrote for the Apple watch. Yeah she's like I'll give you a hundred dollars. And then Laura's like I'll give you hybrids, give me a hundred dollars for this watch, almost paid for itself. And then, like I did, I just needed to get through it.

Rick:

Why don't you, why didn't you enclose the watch right there with your shoes?

Lano:

But uh, just the goal was getting through it, I wish.

Rick:

I would have done that, dude. I mean those, those shoes still look brand new, dude. And those shoes like those are like you watch them before you put them. In that case, no. They got dirt Original bubblegum for the inaugural marathon a little dry pee pee from a homeless dust.

Lano:

That little bronze spot in the back, but those shoes they're like two races and done, like that's the way, like they wear out that much To two marathons and that's it, yeah, like that. They don't like think the lights sounds like 15 miles or something like those are neckies, neckies, yeah.

Rick:

And I got.

Lano:

I got those as a gift, but they, they ran out like that's why I didn't training them. I didn't know nothing. I just saved them for the race and then that was it. Did you pick that color? No, my wife bottom. For me there's only is either loud or louder.

Rick:

It's all flashier or whatever. Hey I, you know what I was picking my. I wish I would have like Kept my my first shoes, marathon shoes, my first marathon shoes, and I was so in shape that first marathon.

Lano:

I look back at those pictures. Yeah, but I was told ten years ago like exactly ten years ago, dude, ten years ago.

Rick:

I gotta look it up. This is probably like my 17th marathon total, total, because you know I'm one.

Lano:

You're doing like I don't know like I was doing, I was doing.

Rick:

Huntington Beach Marathons Long Beach I.

Lano:

Don't know.

Rick:

I was doing the Breville series, the the Big Bear and the we're at Lake Arrowhead. The Big Bear and, yeah, lake Arrowhead.

Lano:

Well, cuz your brother was doing a lot, you're doing whatever you do he was doing like a race every month.

Rick:

I did, big sir, that damn horrible one.

Lano:

But your brother, like he broke down, no, like he wore up, yeah, now he doesn't do nothing.

Rick:

No, is he? Is he? I don't even know if he's biking, bike riding, but try them like, is he?

Lano:

I haven't seen. Is he in shape or no? More Nice.

Rick:

But um.

Lano:

That, uh, now these shoes this is what they call them that has the, the shanking it and whatever propelled you like, if you, if you invent, don't even ask me how much these shoes are. Laura, laura, bottom from.

Rick:

For so another word you were cheating.

Lano:

No, no. I mean I'm gonna use the latest tools to my advantage, but whatever is legal, but these shoes you probably get under for with these shoes, no night night keys.

Rick:

They don't make night keys in white. With these shoes, I need wine. I have my, my new balance, I think it's 1080.

Lano:

Yeah, I think there are 1080.

Rick:

Foam pro foam or something like that, but extra wide, because the new, the new technology and shoes is the carbon plate, that's how all the the marathoners are there.

Lano:

They're breaking two hours and all that stuff. So if you see how this this it gives you a little spring. Yeah, like so your stride you get legs are like three or four feet every stride. Now see this like you gotta have a stride, though you didn't have a stride, but that's the thing you were.

Rick:

You weren't even. You were trotting dude with with my hip now open.

Lano:

From this hip hook God like now I have a straight. Now you can really stretch out like a racehorse.

Rick:

I can stretch out and run Like I could. I could stretch out my legs. You've always been slow dude.

Lano:

Well, you know, I think, I think my hip when we used to run, when we locked for 40 years when we surrender some pascual, do you always stay way behind?

Rick:

I think my my hips been locked and now that my hips unlocked, with the hip hook Like my stride everything.

Lano:

I don't feel like Frankenstein, no more all like stiff like now. You feel like I'm loose, I'm all like.

Rick:

I feel all like straight.

Lano:

Stop and then wearing zero shoes for the past two years. My feet You're five to socks, being one with the earth. You never wear the socks, you never put them.

Rick:

I still haven't. I don't even think those things are gonna fit my big ass. Feet, no, no feet.

Lano:

You should have been training.

Rick:

In those socks I was out one pair. What about me? Damn, I was thinking of giving them to Vanessa. Oh no, they'll be too big for those things. Look smaller, dude I. I don't think they stretch that much.

Lano:

So these are the shoes I'm used to have time you got to get this. Oh, no man, She'll sell it I'm the damn thing. See, I can three days See how you oh yeah, you don't have time. Let's see. This is the shoe, like I bet if you.

Rick:

You know what maybe maybe I'll use those illegal shoes for next year. Oh, I've seen those. I saw those that. I saw that big ass.

Lano:

Yeah, this is the thing. This is how big the soul that's, yeah, yeah.

Rick:

I saw those at the new balance um outlet store. Well, at the outlet, yeah, oh, you should get them if they're at the outlet. I saw, I saw some. I saw that they look exaggerated, like Well, that was the shoe, was like all soul.

Lano:

Well, that's, that's the thing. See, look, it says the propulsive feeling, my carbon fiber plate. This is, this is a new. All the marathoners, all right, maybe like Adidas, nike's new balance, like they all have this, like technology and everybody's like you know maybe next year, next year, oh, there'll be a more better. Like that things in a like springer your foot and everybody's everybody and just use it for race day.

Rick:

I mean that's probably good. That's probably good for a lot of Injuries, cramps and all that.

Lano:

And, like I said, this thing, like this foam, it's really like let's gonna wear out fast. That's why it's like maybe two or three races.

Rick:

And that's it.

Lano:

Oh, and that's it.

Rick:

Okay, but you gotta train something in with them. So, whatever you train with them, I mean I didn't trade at all, I mean mine.

Lano:

I was just like saving, I was just like I just did my, my zero and then how you're gonna break them in. I did my zeros and I was like let's just do it. But like I did, I did get tight, I guess.

Rick:

I guess your your four, five mile workouts, do them with that, maybe the month leading into it, just so you break those shoes in, or Maybe, or maybe just walking around in them.

Lano:

What's? What's the site to do your time? I don't surprise I was doing like like nine minute miles. I'll surprise the beginning at the first, like 10 miles.

Rick:

Yeah. When you leave this because when you're leaving daughter stadium, you're kind of and and it's cold, yeah, the morning is cold, so you're like you want to warm up, not a downhill you're doing, you're like excited and everything Until you like settled in after the fourth, fifth mile.

Lano:

What would kill me was just those switchbacks at the end. But now that I know, like there's like now I know where the finish line. Like now I know. Like that there's don't get excited, so don't look her head around the corner.

Rick:

I would say three spots in this, maybe four, four spots. The first spot is when you're already done around downtown, oh, and you're going up that steep incline in our what's that temple? Tokyo, little Tokyo.

Lano:

Yeah, where they do the drums, I think it's temple. Yeah, my sister.

Rick:

so that you don't burn yourself out there. So that's number one. So that's, one spot you got to be careful not to burn your, your energy. You're going along the the marathon ride. You're cool, you know you guys get on sunset, you know, do your thing. I think another.

Rick:

Crossover the freeway, like the crossover, like my echo park, yeah, yeah, that's a little tough, but that first incline and then maybe when you're already down, hitting down from I don't know if it's Hollywood down to Santa Monica, that really steep hill when you go into West West.

Speaker 3:

Yeah.

Rick:

West um.

Lano:

Like. Are you saying like stalee, or like by the veterans before the veterans? Like that?

Rick:

No, no way before that. No, I'm like like a permanent area, like, yeah, and it's a real steep hill, yeah, which it's you go into.

Speaker 3:

Santa Monica, that's where all yeah you know, you know right, yeah.

Rick:

So that could be the second spot, because a lot of people I see a lot of people that incline.

Lano:

They just want to haul ass down, yeah they're like, so all in ass down, going all the way down. You can straight something. Yeah, pull something. Your knee cramp up Something yeah, so you just got to stay steady going down there, I thought people were going full speed like yeah, that's stupid, like great and that's like yeah, that's like I want to say 12 or something, so that that could be the second spot you got to be careful with.

Rick:

And then the last two where you really gotta like push and and be careful is After you're going up. So, povita, when you already pass any of the stars, where the finish line is that right, right, right, and you pass right. When you pass everybody, oh, and then you turn right that stretch on some povita to veteran, yeah, veteran.

Lano:

Yeah or the.

Rick:

Yeah, the VA. So that stretch of some povita, because that things killer dude. That's where you say LA and USC's post up the on the both sides.

Lano:

Oh, I didn't know.

Rick:

Yeah so well, it's a long stretch and then it's kind of a long stretch and it's an incline, and then that part of stuff is tough.

Lano:

So and there's not like it, kind of like like, gets like, like not that many fans, so gets a little lonely already when you passed.

Rick:

Yeah, yeah like it's like the crowd starts dwindling, like you don't see that many people, and then you go underneath the freeway pass and then you you head up to some b-center, whatever and all that by the freeway, like I started feeling like I'm breathing in like a small yeah something there. Blah, blah, blah so that that spot and then the last spot is the, the last part of it. Dude, the damn. I'm back on Santa Monica and you're going up and down those damn. Yeah, that's horrible, dude.

Rick:

And where before before, and they say the company starts printing early and you still got a bunch of oh yeah, and I think that all I'm there, and then they don't realize the damn down and up, down and up with the street Before man. Once you hit already past all that. You're cruising on down ocean Boulevard or whatever it is, and it's just a slow decline to you hit the beach. It's like that was nice, you know, but now you got to come back and then deal with that up and down bullshit. That's tough man.

Lano:

Yeah, cuz the beaches are down here like ocean. Ocean, yeah, what is it? Sea level.

Rick:

Yeah, you're going downhill, you're at zero.

Lano:

there man, zero sea level and they're not going back to that. Oh, I heard it kills like different city, like Santa Monica and all I think.

Rick:

Santa Monica.

Lano:

Man, I don't know.

Rick:

I mean it's horrible when you're because you're stuck on that side of town. Then to get out of there it was pretty horrible. I don't know if the trash, the traffic like I mean which? Santa Monica, people were Didn't like it by the time I got there, like the mall parking was that's the only benefit of having it, and right there on Avenue the Stars is the the many ways you can get out and get the hell out of there.

Lano:

Yeah.

Rick:

Because I wear there were you. And then I just walk, cuz those are the buildings that we always work in. Right there have new the stars. Oh, so I'll walk past all that. Go down Constellation hip. Hit them century park east, right where Olympic and Central Park east is crossed over there. I just have them pick me up on that side of town out of all that.

Lano:

Yeah, that's the thing, because we were like taking the long way out, like this fucking drive, like yeah way down there and and then know there's a lot of marker.

Rick:

You're like asked out man. You're like stuff trying to find that place to get out of there. Yeah, no way, no now as a spectator.

Lano:

What's kind of cool is that? Like we're, we're me camps out, yeah, like they get you two ways when, that way you know it's be one way yeah that's a good spot.

Rick:

That's a real good spot, and I was telling Manny Manny's Sunday I was gonna run it for the first time too. Oh really yeah. So I told, I told Manny Ace Um I.

Lano:

Fuck up.

Rick:

Let me know, then you guys can post up right there with, because I think I think make me Vanessa and Shane and Shabby gonna go.

Lano:

I don't know the market sound. You're gonna go. There's a lot of um Like street parking, neighborhood parking, and then you just walk up there.

Rick:

Just walk up.

Lano:

You're not fighting through the crowd like there's there's openings and stuff across and this and that.

Rick:

I have an answer.

Lano:

I have me a Pacific or maybe, maybe a michelada think a michelada that's like and a donut the Lawrence had beer and I didn't take it Cuz I thought like I was all like my routine, like, um, I had like my gels and I need to take this every two hours, every at that point, at that point I think it'll be each time, that's 19 mile 20, almost 20 mile.

Rick:

After that, dude, I'm eating, taking anything that I can get to give me an interview and.

Lano:

Because, well, that's what they said the barley of the beer, like that's carbs that fill you up. And then the alcohol, like relaxes your muscles. I should, I should have took in it by thought I was gonna wreck me up, but then after that I just got stiff because it started getting cold and raining. My muscles tightened up. I.

Rick:

Remember when I ran into you you're fucking. You were hating that fucking, that stretch.

Lano:

You know this is bullshit and I thought like, like I was like two blocks behind you. Because you just think it's gonna be at the end of like your site.

Rick:

Yeah, come back around before, when you go under the freeway, pass right. Yeah you think it's right there right now?

Lano:

No, you're going away.

Rick:

I caught you back on Sepulveda right.

Lano:

Yeah, yeah, you're on something to go through Brentwood and a little downtown over there and turn around like by.

Speaker 3:

UCLA.

Rick:

It's. It's a horrible feeling, man.

Lano:

Yeah, I saw I Think it was after. Well, yeah, I must have been after you. That's all like Laura's older sister and she was like shaking her head, like, like, discussing this is like this pissing, piss off. But she was coming back. She was after you. Yeah, maybe 10 minutes after you, but yeah it was, it was.

Rick:

Are they all? Are they all gonna do it?

Lano:

No, no, Lord, I mean, I mean, yeah, maybe we all guys do it together.

Rick:

Yeah, that should be the goal, because, like you get in shape, you guys getting shape. That way you guys won't be too far behind them.

Lano:

Yeah, if they leave you or if they want to hang out with you, yeah, I mean last time, like Laura picked me up, every was already like done for a while.

Rick:

Cali's gonna run it with me. Cali's the Cali's to that dude. He's, he's, he's I Don't know how he does it, man, but that dude would call me up. He's like oh yeah, I just ran a 15 mile this morning. I wish I was in that shape, cuz he's like nothing right now. Man, he's like light as hell.

Lano:

And um, but he got a he's done.

Rick:

Oh, yeah, he's done. Oh, he did it one time with me. He did it one time with me without even paying for it, he just ran, it's right. He told me he goes hey, when you pick up your bib, take a picture of it and then send it to me. And he got a bid that had similar colors to it and he used that bib and we went in. We snuck in cuz.

Lano:

Oh, like, like from a previous race, from a previous marathon, I'm pretty as marathon he just alright.

Rick:

This one looks like similar yeah so then he wore that and then like we had our those, those foam, those Foil blankets, yeah. So we're like coming in, we're like people are checking, we're like we just snuck in. We get in and he like does it real quick? And he got in. He didn't even care about the metal whenever he just wanted to run it.

Rick:

Yeah and he, you know he ran it with me. This year he's doing it but because he's getting. My cousin Luiz is Bim. The cousin Luiz was supposed to run it and he hasn't told me like why he didn't. He trained for it.

Lano:

Oh, I mean, he bought it I. He bought it last year like, but I mean, I mean it's expensive, but he just never, never got in, never got, never got disciplined to do.

Rick:

I still have to talk to him about that. I was like what happened, man, that you're supposed to them Discipline and get your workout like he has to train for it. Right, he has to train for it.

Lano:

I might I mean I trained for at least yeah you know we're doing little runs and stuff.

Rick:

I don't know. I don't know how many damn runs. I mean at least the last two, the last two marathons. I did it with no training, I just went out and did it and that was horrible. Those were horrible.

Lano:

So you tell me this or you've, you've done training, I've done, maybe about 10 runs, maybe. Oh, that's. I mean, that's still good from a long from February.

Rick:

They're just little, three mile four mile runs.

Lano:

So that's why I like when those my training every week can just do three miles, three miles and the last like couple weeks, just push it.

Rick:

Yeah, at least I've done some running, getting my body like working for that long.

Lano:

But running for three hours, four hours, like this little Running this my body.

Rick:

Next week I'll be coming in with my alley loyal hoodie.

Lano:

Well, I'll put you, I'm gonna put you on the Norma tech and then maybe the hip hook.

Rick:

Maybe I'll be. I'll just be bicycling the whole show Just to keep my muscles loose and everything, like I said like that Norma tech.

Lano:

Bring on, bring your your sweatpants, your workout pants. Is a Norma takes and squeeze all the lactate out of you. All right, I Like you'll have to have it on your legs up or have to remove the.

Speaker 3:

Although chair watchers.

Rick:

Put it parallel with the shelf right here and that would make room there.

Lano:

Yeah, cuz you have to keep your legs, you can sit in the chair. I'll put a little stool. I'll put a little stool, just because step. Yeah, keep your legs straight.

Rick:

And then I can give a review of that too. Yeah, see if it's working or not.

Lano:

Well, we'll do it. Yeah, I'll be after the marathon, you're gonna need it, yeah, yeah, but uh, you're feeling good, yeah.

Rick:

I mean, at least I got some running in.

Lano:

And then you're gonna go have a beer at Leanne's.

Rick:

I want to go. Maybe we'll do karaoke. Maybe karaoke on Sunday night. That would be like, hey man, I just ran the marathon this morning and now I'm busing out Um the song or the chocolate, starfish and hot dog flavored water play.

Lano:

Play some um the killers. I always just surrender them. They have good running music yeah and what's good is?

Rick:

I run without the piece. I run without music. No, it's it's, it's, it's, it's better because you're not worried about starting your music and then Right or or getting tired of a playlist and you want to switch or whatever. It's like just a sinifference that I am.

Lano:

No, I don't think I ran with with music. I bought headphones. I was in Dubai. I didn't take it because you listen to your breathing? I want that, and then I wanted to hear the the, the drums, and the different, like Corners and the different music.

Rick:

Especially in the marathon, the the whole way over there, just the people coming out, the bands that come out elder support.

Lano:

You see, just all that you know people complain because, like the watches died, like mine, the crazy lasted.

Rick:

The crazy uh jesus nuts that are out there with their microphone saying that we're all sinners, yeah that that kind of throws me off I.

Lano:

And then what's stupid is like that was early.

Rick:

Okay, he's, he's doing that, but then people are like they start talking crap to him.

Lano:

You know yeah and then they're just like screaming, and I was like dude, I just.

Rick:

I was like I didn't get out of, like man, Just ignore them man. Yeah, people started like doing all this feed into it, you know.

Lano:

And then I think I'm gonna um, I'll try to get closer to the the starting line. Before I was, I was weighing the back Over with the group. That's the thing like when I run with my wife. It's gonna be um, because we're gonna be running together, so it's gonna be like it'll be good. It'll be, it'll be different and, um, like, one of us has to stay back or whatever, I'm not gonna go for time or I just go for.

Rick:

For running, because let me hear first time no. But you gotta see what the training goes. Yeah, you never know. You might be chasing, you might be having a, you might have to run it with an injury.

Lano:

You never know. Yeah, true.

Rick:

So you guys gotta be.

Lano:

Listen to me, you gotta be there. Good luck man.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, we'll see, and then we'll have a show right after um.

Lano:

See how you're doing, we'll put you on the Norma tech. Um, yeah, I know, if there's room we'll put you on the hip hook. I know you're scared of it, but but it's gonna be.

Rick:

I don't know, we'll see. We'll see what's up with that hip hook.

Lano:

It'll help you out.

Rick:

That was a good damn good show.

Lano:

He looked a little nervous. Don't be nervous. No, we got it, that's all we got peeps.

Rick:

See how survived.

Lano:

Next, week the Ricky beat four hours. Put it on on instagram.

Rick:

Yeah, maybe better put something on instagram. I'm gonna put the little a me you have pictures posted.

Lano:

Yeah, you'll be following me.

Rick:

Keep drifting, y'all Peace.
